There are many rescue groups with many specialties. They range from specializing with working with farm animals, ferrets, rabbits to specific breeds of cats and dogs.

They provide many resources including shelter for animals, education, referrals and speakers.

They can also be a wonderful place to volunteer. No matter what your talents are there’s a need for your talent and caring.

Aussie Rescue in the Northwest

Baahaus Animal Rescue Group
Location:   Vashon Island
Description:   A farm animal rescue group. Rescued animals include llamas, ducks, goats, rabbits, pigs, sheep, geese, chickens, birds and donkeys.


Best Little Rabbit, Rodent & Ferret House
Location:   Seattle
Description:   An all-volunteer, non-profit organization that rescues and finds homes for abandoned rabbits, and educates the public through publications on rabbit care, phone consultation, and classes upon request.

Description:   A Border Collies rescue group.


Canine Connections
Location:   Snoqualmie
Description:   A strong therapeutic component at Echo Glen (a coeducational juvenile correctional program for adolescents between the ages of 11-20). This program pairs residents at Echo Glen Children's Center (at risk youth) with unwanted dogs. This program gives the youth an opportunity to experience responsibility, patience and conflict resolution skills, promoting emotional development. Dogs are typically maintained in the program for 60-80 days and then placed in permanent adoptive homes.

Description:   An all-volunteer organization that takes in Basset Hounds that have been relinquished by their owners, abandoned, or picked up by Animal Control as strays.

Description:   A rescue that provides education, identification, rescue and placement of pedigreed cats.


Compassioned Animal Rescue and Education (CARE)

Description:   A foster home network dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for animals that are in need of rescue or adoption. C.A.R.E. was formed specifically to be a safety net for animals deemed un-adoptable by other agencies and shelters.

Description:   A no-kill shelter dedicated to rescuing ferrets. Ferrets are taken in from individuals who can no longer care for them, Humane Societies and shelters.

Happypaws Farm Humane Society

Description:   No-kill animal shelter and sanctuary. Their programs include finding homes for pets with owners who are terminally ill or nursing home bound; working with pets in domestic violence situations and being prepared to take in animals in case of a local disaster.


Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals

Description:   HAVA is an all-volunteer group in Raymond, WA that places homeless animals in new homes. They also care for several colonies of feral cats.


Homeward Pet Adoption Center

Description:   A nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter. Their mission is to involve the community in providing care for homeless cats and dogs until permanent homes are found and to help alleviate animal overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering.


Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County

Description:   A non-profit organization, offering a foster home network for the rehabilitation and care of hooved animals that have been impounded by local law enforcement in abuse and neglect cases, pending prosecution.

Description:   Kindred Spirits operates one of the largest reptile sanctuaries in the nation. They provide medical and behavioral care for reptiles that need to recover from past trauma and then work to find the best possible situation for each animal for the remainder of its life.


Little Dudes Ferret Ranch

Description:   A 100% no-kill shelter that cares for homeless ferrets until a new permanent loving home is found for them. No ferrets are ever euthanized due to lack of room and no ferrets are ever turned away. They rescue ferrets and provide resources and education to the public about ferrets.
